Breaking Down the Dam

When that dam holding back the flood of emotions springs a leak, don't make a quick fix. Let it burst out, let it be done. And then, when it has left a trail of destruction, and you've come to terms with it, taking all the time you need, rebuild.

For if you plug that hole, it may hold, but it will always stick out as a sore thumb. Nope, it's not where the light enters you, it's where the hurt always begins.

Let grief consume you. Let it flow through you for days, months, and years, if it has to. And then it'll be done and have no power to ever say to you "I broke you."

Clear out the old that serves you no more, no matter how much it once meant. Good memories and the bad both are a burden if you dwell on it. Let it be a reminder, or a reason to smile. And then, be on your way again.

"I choose to rebuild myself, and now the old has no power to break me again. For now, when I see myself, I see what I did for me, and not that gaping hole that was left in me."
